the Price of an Ob/Gyn

Last winter, my wife went for her annual pap smear, breast exam, etc. I went into the examination room as I always do. The doctor was very nice to both of us and asked us if we had a good Winter Solstice (she knows we are Pagans). She talked casually while she got her instruments and supplies set up. She then exited the room so that my wife could undress. When my wife was ready, the doctor helped her onto the examination table and got her situated as need be. She performed a breast exam, pap smear, and internal exam of my wife's genitals and also looked at her cervix. She said that all looked good and informed us that if my wife's pap smear came back negative for the human pap virus, she would not need another pap for three years. My wife got dressed, got her script for her depo shot for the year, and we left.

My wife loves her doctor. For years my wife has battled with crying during her annual exams and not liking her doctors. With this doctor, that is not an issue. This doctor is very quick, thorough, and efficient. She knows and understands my wife's mental issues and never talks shop while examining her except to ask her at the end if she has any questions for her. She is gentle and puts my wife at ease. I would recommend this doctor to any woman, but especially to ones with fears surrounding their annual exam. I know my wife would say the same.

After watching my wife suffer for years, I am glad she has finally found a doctor she is comfortable with. Just never stop looking for that perfect doctor. If you are uncomfortable or not pleased, switch docs. Do not be afraid to do this for fear of upsetting another doctor in the same practice. You are the one paying for it and being examined and you should be able to be comfortable.
