Description of service

I agreed to have a security system installed in our home. I had not planned on getting one at the time, but a door to door salesman talked me into it. He told me that I would get $1000 worth of equipment for free if I agreed to a one year contract and to place an advertising sign in the yard. The equipment included fire/smoke alarms hard-wired into the electric, two door alarms, and sensor lasers located in two places in the home.

Review of Service

In general, I was not pleased. The equipment did turn out to be completely free - four guys came and installed all of it within an hour. However, the price that I was originally quoted for monthly service was not the price that I ended up being requested to pay. I was told that the charge would be approximately $50/month, which included automatic notification of the police and fire departments if anything should happen. I was also told that the first three months would be free. However, when I started receiving bills, the monthly charge was nearly $100. Also, I never got any month free. We canceled the service and had everything removed when this came to our attention.

Tips

Make sure to read the fine print - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Also, try to get the original quote that the salesperson gives you in writing, so you will have this for future reference.
