We had a security system installed in our very old home. The cost of the installation was $1200. This included all of the hardware and labor involved.
Review of Service
My husband and I bought a home built in the early 1920's that had never had a security system installed. We thought when we bought it that getting a security system installed wouldn't be a huge deal. Boy were we wrong.
I don't really understand the specifics, but apparently our home had old wiring that required a lot of upgrading before our security system could be installed.
We also had our phone through an interent company and were told by our Security company that we needed to have a dedicated land line or they wouldn't guarantee that we'd get the calls when there was a supposed break in. This caused us to have to have a phone line installed, which was included in the total price of the installation.
The company we worked with was very professional and very upfront about the costs that were associated with this.
Tips
If you own an older home, be prepared to pay out the nose to get a new security system installed. If you're looking to purchase a home and want a security system installed, you might want to consider these costs.
