Description of service

I was scheduled to undergo a myomectomy to remove a fibroid which was pushing against my uterus causing my abdominal area to swell. I had an experienced and competent OB-Gynecologist who specialized in these surgeries. I was also assigned 2 anaesthesiologists so the operation was expected to go smoothly. However, during the procedure, I started to lose a lot of blood, which my doctor attributed to a possible puncture in my uterus when they cut-off the large fibroid. Given that I was in danger of losing my uterus and the possibility of procedure turning into a hysterectomy, my doctor asked a specialist in urogynecology to consult and assist in patching up the rupture. Suffice to say that I only found out about the extra procedure and the fees a few days after my operation. The fee only covers the additional doctor’s fee, given that he was requested last-minute to undertake the emergency procedure. This does not cover the cost of the operating room and the medicines, as it was separately billed by my primary surgeon.

Review of Service

It was a necessary surgery and it saved my uterus. I do not think you can put a price on fertility. I would like to have a child in the near future and this operation will give me a chance to conceive. Everything about my entire procedure was efficient and professional. My doctors and nurses were warm and reassuring and inspired confidence. I don’t remember being afraid at all. The facilities in the operating room looked state-of-the-art and well-maintained. They even asked me if the temperature was warm enough and if I needed blankets. I am not sure how much my emergency procedure would typically cost, but given that my hospital is highly-regarded, it is probably worth the cost. It was a good thing I had health insurance.

Tips

Having a good health insurance company covering your possible medical issues is invaluable. It is always good to keep this as a high-priority when checking out employee benefits before accepting a job offer. I am also thankful that I went to very good institution, as I know that my primary doctor will be sure to choose an equally competent doctor to assist him in the emergency.
