Description of service
These cake decorating classes were held at the local community college in the continuing education department. The class lasted a little over a month, with classes meeting once a week for three hours. The class registration was $45 and there was around $35 of materials to purchase, which included icing, fondant, and decorating tools.
The community college's cake decorating classes were very fun and informative. The instructor taught us how to make cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, and a variety of occasions. The class taught pressure control of decorating utensils, how to form decorative flowers and borders, and how to clearly and smoothly write on a cake with icing.
Review of Service
I found this class to be very helpful. While you wouldn't learn enough in it to be a professional cake decorator, it is a good place to start to learn the basics of rolling out fondant, mixing icing colors, how to control your tools, how to make edible flowers, and icing design. I would recommend this type of class to anyone who makes cakes often for family occasions, or anyone looking to getting into professional cake design. This would be a great way to test it out and see if you like it!
Tips
Definitely check your local community college to see if they have classes. Most hobby stores have the decorating tools you will need. There are usually also cake shops in town that will carry them. Have fun!
