the Price of Cake Decorating Classes

My mom originally signed me up for a cake decorating class for my birthday. I ended up loving it and took 3 classes all together.

The service was great, lots of fun. Each class met one night a week (mine was on Wed) for four weeks. (For instance, every Wednesday night in February, or every Wednesday night in March.)

We learned a lot in each class. The very first class was very basic. The instructor started out by bringing in a cake, showing you how to cut and stack it, and then how to frost it. She went over every element. She then showed us how to make the frosting since you make a specific type that holds up best with decorating.

For each class level you are required to buy the class kit which has all of the supplies that you will use during the 4 week time. You are required to bake the cake at home and then bring it into class for decorating. The frosting must also be made by you at home and the cake needs to be frosted before you get into class.

Most of the service was learning to make flowers (one 4 week class was completely dedicated to flower making!). Another part of the service was about making and decorating cakes with fondant.

The class was great. Everyone went away learning a lot. One thing that you may not realize upfront is that you end up buying so much stuff! I have so many different cake pans (some even came right in the class kit). Each kit also gives you about 10-20 new tips. By the end of all of the classes, I had to buy this tackle-box looking kit to hold all my stuff!

The instructor was great! She taught all 3 of the classes and the whole class was able to benefit from her knowledge. She brought us coupons, pictures, websites to access, and all kinds of useful tools.

If you do plan to take a craft class, I would highly recommend cake decorating. Be prepared to obtain a lot of stuff! I don't even know where to store all my new cake stuff, so make sure you have room in your house for all your acquired goodies!
