Description of service

I used a retirement planning service through a major company. I am only about 24, so I did not have a very complicated picture.

This financial/retirement planner charged me $300 per year for about a 1 hour session once per year. I felt like that was a total rip off.

Review of Service

The lady that I went through was not referred to me. I found this service online. I would recommend going through someone you know or getting a good recommendation.

One huge problem with the service was that they invested my money in only their companies mutual fund option. I imagine that they make a killing from that. Needless to say, the mutual fund didn't even do very well.

Now, there is even a lawsuit pending against them because they only invested their clients monies into their own funds.

Tips

Definitely go through a reputable company for this, or get this type of service free if you can through your employer. Paying $300 for 1 session is a huge rip off. Now I manage my own finances through an online company and buy and research the stocks and mutual funds myself. I feel like I have my own best interest in mind, more than someone else.
