Service of home security system activated by phone, fee includes monthly service of $25 and $35 phone bill each month.

The company uses a system that makes calls from your phone line everytime it is armed or disarmed. When we first purchased the system they did not let us know of a recurring phone bill that was going to add up to $35.00 each month. They just said the system is free with an 18 month contract with them and that the low fee of $25.00 dollars a month would stay all the way through the contract. Well my first surprise came with the phone bill, the system apparently made calls everytime it sensed somebody walking into each of the places it was placed, the total number of calls added up to 35 a day! at 10cents a minute that is $3.50 each day and hence $35.00 a month just on calls. When I contacted them regarding this amount of calls, they argued that the particular plan I had chosen enable the system to "call" everytime it sensed something. At the end part of the problem was that I did not read the fine print on the contract I was about to sign so in the end I had to finish the contract with the same terms.

If it is a system that uses a phone line to arm then they should let you know how many calls it will make from your phone line each day. If they do not know or they say they are not sure of a particular number than look elsewhere or better yet look for a system that is independent or that has all the fees included into one monthly payment.
