I paid an interior design student $150 to design a redecoration of my living room. They gave me a detailed plan, a computer generated 360 degree model of the finished room, a break down of the products needed and a breakdown of the total cost involved.
Review of Service
A local student did this for me as their final project to get their degree. It was actually supposed to be free but the finished product was so impressive I gave them $100. They did the computer generated model but gave me several options for several of the design elements in the write up. There were several cost options as my budget was not set in stone. They also recommended several local companies to do some of the work and recommended some stores to go to for furniture and accessory purchase. This was a really unique opportunity and I was very, very pleased with how it turned out.
Tips
Getting a student to design your interior spaces can be a huge money saver. It also gives them great experience so it's a win win for everyone involved. The only downside is that once the decoration was done I did supply her with pictures to use in her portfolio when attempting to get new jobs. I felt a little uncomfortable sharing pictures of my home with strangers.
