I have been getting my hair colored and highlighted for a long time. The process of having multiple things done to your hair takes a long time and while everyone is very professional the ambiance of the salon leaves a lot to be desired. Deep condition your hair or use a clarifying treatment at least three days before highlighting because some chemicals in hair color can seriously dry your hair. Try to go two or three shades lighter than your original hair color. Going beyond three shades will look extremely unnatural and peculiar. You also have the option to have lowlights with your highlights which can give your hair more dimension. Lowlights make your hair darker in shade. It will add time to your appointment but it will give more dimension to your hair. Always remember hair color is never permanent. It will grow out, wash out, fade out, and when all else fails, you can always get what you don't like cut off or recolor it.
