Description of service

The $900 is a monthly fee. There is also a $150 quarterly supply fee. We also need to pay for field trips including visits to the zoo, museums, in-house opera performances, in-house stage plays. The price for the field trips vary from $10 - 20 each time. The school opens at 7:30 in the morning and closes at 6:00 in the afternoon. They open for 12 months a year. The school has kindergarten to 6th grade. There are about 20 - 30 kids in the class. There are two full-time teachers and three part-time teachers. They are all certified and all have college degrees or even masters degrees.

Review of Service

My son has been in the school since January this year. We saw him making a lot progress in reading and math since then. He can now read simple books and write simple sentences. His math is also quite impressive. Montessori teaching has its own methods and tools. My sons is doing number chains which in my view is sort of a multiplication table without telling the kids that's what it is. They also teach geography, biology, arts, spanish (although I have never heard my son speaking any spanish) and other interesting things. They often have projects to do. Sometimes my son took home a map of the americas or europe on which he labeled the name of each countries. He could actually remember lots of the names and locations of the Caribbean countries which is quite impressive to me, since I can't name them all myself. Overall, we are very satisfied with the school.

Tips

If you can afford it, private schools certainly has higher teacher-student ratio and smaller class size than most public schools. And we are very impressed with our son's progress since he attended the school this January. Also this method has a higher emphasis on developing the whole child than public schools which in my view can overly emphasize the test scores. Not that the test scores are not important, but there got to be other things such as managing time and self-confidence that can have a long-lasting impact on a child. However, having said all that, we are sending our son to a good public school this Fall. The reason is purely economics. We also have a daughter who is younger than our son. And it is going to be a lot of tuition to pay for two kids to go to that school.
