Description of service

Pianos aren't really an item than can be carried around, so the piano tuner has to come to the piano. My piano tuner makes an appointment with me and comes to my house to work on my piano. I usually have the piano tuned every six months. When he arrives, he plays the piano to get an idea of what needs to be adjusted. He usually tells me what he's going to do, although the cost is always the same so it's not like it's an estimate. It looks like a pretty mysterious process to me, but he opens the lid of he piano and adjusts the strings. From what I understand, he not only tunes the string to a set pitch, but tunes each set of strings to they are the proper pitch in relation to one another. It's not a messy process. So when he's finished, he just closes up the piano and plays it some more to make sure it all sounds right.

Review of Service

The quality of service I receive is outstanding. It's excellent, superb. I couldn't be happier with it. The tuner always confirms the appointment the day before. He arrives on time, is pleasant and professional, he tunes the piano perfectly (or it sounds perfect to me anyway) and I feel his fee is extremely reasonable. I only tinker around on the piano, I would say I'm a still a beginner even, but having a well tuned piano is so important. And this service does just that.

Tips

I found my piano tuner through a reference from my daughter's piano teacher. I do think this helped me find a really good one. I also think developing an ongoing relationship with a tuner is important. This is a service that needs to be repeated, so it helps a great deal to be on a schedule and, if happy with the service, to see the same tuner each time. He (or she) gets familiar with your piano and also with how you like things done. References are key though.
