the Cost of Boat Insurance

I spent $400 for a year of insurance on my boat. It covered break downs of my boat and basic repairs.

I used the same company I have my home owner's insurance with. I have never had mechanical problems I've had to use the boat for but they will come get the boat wherever it is when it breaks down and make repairs, so they say. I admit I didn't read the the contract well and I thought it covered theft of the boat or damage done to the boat by vandals. It didn't. I had someone come and key my boat and it was not covered. It wasn't a huge deal as it's not a very nice boat but I feel like since I've never needed the insurance except for something they didn't even cover that I basically spent money on nothing. I called my home owner insurance provider to complain and they said that the policy wasn't even written through them they actually bought it from another provider and sold it to me with a mark-up.

Do your homework! Make sure you are getting the best deal and make sure you know exactly what is covered and who your insurance is with.
