the Price of Renting an SUV

I had a business trip to Anaheim, CA and needed a larger vehicle for my equipment and transportation. I had arranged to pick up the vehicle at the airport. I requested a mid-sized SUV. The total cost, including fuel and taxes was $214.

My prior arrangements for an automobile were made by my company and I had told my secretary the type of vehicle required. She made all the arrangements and it was ready when I arrived at the airport. We have used this rental agency on numerous previous trips and have had few problems over the years. The SUV was clean, a non-smoker vehicle and had several nice touches, such as a GPS.

I drove it almost 200 miles and the gas mileage was poor, even for a vehicle of this size. But, I needed the room for clients and equipment.

I feel that based on the location and type of vehicle it was a fair price.

When renting a vehicle always ask for corporate discounts. If it is a private rental, ask for discounts. Depending on the mileage to be driven, it may be better to pay in advance for the gasoline at the agency's reduced rate offered at the initial sign-in.

Inspect the vehicle prior to driving it.
