the Price of Legal Services for Small Businesses

One of the services that we request our lawyer take care of where I work (a small plumbing company) are the liens that we have to file if a customer does not pay their bill. After we attempt to contact the customer at 30 and 45 days out (if not successful) we turn it over to them and they try to contact them in both writing and via phone for the next 10 days and than at 60 days our lawyer will file a lien on their home. If it is a simple case and just filing a lien that is resolved right away without any court action going on the lawyer charges us $75/lien. If it goes to court or drags on for another 30-60 days than he will charge an additional $75 for a total of $150. We have not had a lien go out farther than 60 days with him working on it before so I do not know what he would charge than.

The service he provides us makes it easier for our company as there are so many different laws in debt collection that unless you are around them everyday it is hard to keep up with what is going on with them.

Make sure that who you have representing you is up to date on your company's needs and the current laws. Ask companies in the same fields as yours who they use and what types of law services they often require.
