Description of service

Treatment and diagnosis of certain eye disorders, exams, consultations, diagnosis, emergency services, routine check-ups, follow-up care, referrals. I saw him for a macural degeneration appointment

Review of Service

The service was fantastic. I have been wearing glasses since I was ten, and started wearing contacts shortly after that. I haven't always taken the best care of my eyes. When I first started wearing contact lenses, things were different. Extended-wear contacts at the time were considered safe for wear for up to several weeks at a time without having to take them out. I would sleep in them, dive in them, whatever. My eyes have paid the price. My eyes have grown steadily worse as I have gotten older, to the point where I am reaching legal blindness. The opthamologist told me I have macular degeneration (which is doc-speak for can't see well without corrective lenses), but that there are some precautions I need to take to see if we could keep my eyes from continuing to deteriorate at such a rapid rate. He gave me the most comprehensive and thorough eye exam I have ever had in my life, and recommended some good, quality contact lenses that I CAN sleep in without damaging my corneas. I also got a pair of good, quality glasses, which I was fitted specifically for, with good, durable, anti-glare lenses. It has made all the difference in the world. After a year, my vision is actually holding steady, for the first time in my life.

Tips

Find out if you really need to see an opthamologist, or if an optometrist will suffice. It is helpful to see an opthamologist every so often, but it isn't completely necessary. Find somebody who is highly recommended, and with whom you can speak freely with about your vision and your concerns.
