the Price of Engagement Portraits

My (then) fiance and I went to have our engagement portraits done, along with our little boy Seth. We met the photographer at the beach, and were given a digital compilation of all the images, over 900!

My husband and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, so it was about an 8 hour drive. We were actually scouting out prospective wedding photographers, and so in the meantime were looking to have some engagement portraits done. This woman was fabulous! She brought her husband along as her assistant, and also to entertain our little boy, as we were right on the ocean and it was dangerous at times. She found gorgeous shots and knew exactly how to use the sunlight. It was fall, so a little chilly, and we had lots of clothing and layers to work with, and she accommodated them wonderfully. I loved the fact that we got digital images of everything that she took, instead of the standard (tiny) proofs that are hard to see. For some reason, when we were mailed the original disc of pictures, it did not work on my computer so she immediately sent out a second one, which she would normally charge for.

My suggestion is that you shouldn't be afraid to go out on a limb! Look for reviews and referrals by people you know, or people in your area, and do it! We traveled a long distance and actually made a long weekend out of it, and we were fortunate to have found someone who took such wonderful portraits of us, which we will be keeping for as long as technologically possible! Oh, and get the digital album! It is definitely worth it to be able to order your own prints!
