the Cost of Emergency Room Visits for Injuries

My son was running around on a pile of dirt barefoot in our backyard while we were having our house remodeled and when he ran onto our deck his foot caught the top step which gave him the largest splinter I had ever seen. The doctor had to cut the splinter out to ensure he got it all and that it would be a clean wound. Then he cleansed it with alcohol or some type of cleanser. I felt so bad for my son because it was just one of those fluke accidents. The received 15 stitches and has his foot wrapped in gauze. This all cost $1100. The $1100 also included one post accident checkup to have stitches out and ensure it was healing properly.

The doctor was very careful and tried not to frighten my son too much because he was already scared. He asked him about his favorite sport and video game to keep him from focusing on the wound. Very nice guy. Of course it was expensive, but this kind of thing happens. I just tell my son that he now has a great story to tell all his friends.

We went to the ER because he was bleeding quite a bit. If he wasn't bleeding as much we would have gone to the urgent care. You just need to be the judge of how severe the accident is to justify what your actions will be.
