Description of service
I was a groomsman in my friend's wedding last month. He and his wife are Indian and are devout in their Hindu faith. I am a white kid from suburban Los Angeles so to see an authentic Indian wedding was fascinating. The bride and her bride's maids spent an entire day with three henna tattoo artists. It took nearly eight hours for on artist to do the bride's hands and feet. The four bride's maids were done by two other artists in the same amount of time. The groom elected to also wear henna in tribute to his family. The four groom's men had a little henna done on our hands as well in solidarity. Our tattoos were considerably smaller than what the ladies had to do, but were every bit as lovely.
Review of Service
These artists were amazing. The pipe onto you, what looks like mud, in the most delicate and beautiful designs. The hard part was staying still for the half an hour they worked on me. After the designs were on we couldn't touch anything, or do anything really, for two hours while it dried. I was enthralled by the experience. I asked my friend's parents how much the artists cost, I know it was tacky but I was really curious. I found out that the artist were paid $1500.00 dollars to do the ladies and agreed to do the men for free.
Tips
This was my only experience with henna tattoos. I imagine that I saw some very experienced artists and that a less experienced artist might charge less, but the results may not be what you want.
