My dogs hair was cut short; he was basically shaved at my request. He was bathed, and he was treated for fleas and ticks. His nails were also clipped.

The service was very excellent. Snickers felt great afterwards, and he seemed to be a happier dog. My only complaint is that I was away from my dog the whole day. I really enjoyed the pleasant smell from the shampoo the vet used. Snickers seemed to enjoy going outside more because of his short hair, and he really had a great deal of more energy because he wasn't so hot all of the time. The people working in the vet's office were friendly.

Don't settle for the first price you get. Shop around. My vet also offers free grooming with certain procedures; ask your vet about any deals he can make. I would also suggest that you clearly express what it is you expect from the grooming session (shortness of hair, dips, shampoo preferences). I also think it would be a good idea to take a picture of styles you like from magazines just as you would for your own hairdresser if you want your dog to have a certain hairstyle.
