We paid for search engine optimization for our company website. This included two parts; both designing our site in such a way that search engines ranked it more favorably, and creating many links to our site on other websites in order to raise our site in the search engine rankings. The SEO company that we chose offered a package wherein they analyzed our website, it to be search engine optimized, and then created links to boost our website. This package was based on the size of our website, and cost us $2200. There was a cheaper package, priced at 1500 which would only give us a report offering suggestions but leaving us to do the work ourselves. There was also a more expensive subscription package that would offer consistent service, but cost between one thousand and two thousand dollars a month (with a minimum of a six month subscription.) We chose the middle-of-the-road option.

We were fairly satisfied with the service we received. They were polite and professional and paid special attention to addressing our questions and concerns. We did not receive as much new traffic as we had hoped for, but we did register a significant enough increase to be worth the cost. We will perhaps SEO our site again in future years as we continue to grow.

Be careful. If your SEO does not target the right keywords, you can generate a lot of traffic but have it be low-quality. For instance, if you sell baseball bats and after your SEO you get a lot of hits from visitors seeking information on the furry winged critter, your money will be wasted. In our case, our SEO offered a guarantee that they would give our money back if they did not reach the target of a certain number of high-quality visitors. You may wish to broker a similar deal with your SEO provider. Also, they offered us a discount if we contracted to use them again two years from now. We chose not to accept this, but you may wish to bring this up with your SEO provider.
