Description of service

Given that I am from Germany I always wanted my children to be able to speak German. Unfortunately I was the sole one speaking German at home and after so long we just started speaking English only.

I decided that my daughters needed to attend German language classes. So, I got out the Yellowpages and started to look for numbers to call.

I was in luck. Not too far from where we lived at the time I found a place that could teach my children the basics of the language.

I called up the number and found out that there are different classes for different age groups and that the tuition price of the classes varied by age group. My daughters at the time were five and six years old and the gentleman on the phone told me that the I would have to pay $95 for a 45min. lesson. My children would attend a class once a week for eight weeks. The materials would be included. The very first lesson would be free which would give me and my children the chance to see if we liked it or not.

Review of Service

Well, we decided to give it a try. After enrolling both my daughters, their first class was scheduled for the following Wednesday. They liked it and for eight more Wednesdays both went on to study German. This ended up being a great experience for them. They learned quite a lot in those two months.

The teacher was a native German which provided the experience of hearing the language spoken by a real German. It also gave them the opportunity to catch on to the German accent from day one. Most lessons were taught through singing and playing. The kids had fun with stories, flashcards and CD's and DVD's.

The class was kept in a small group (no more than twelve children at a time), so that the teacher was able to give each child

individual attention.

In the end they did not learn the language fluently, but they acquired enough basic language skills so that I could start teaching them more at home.

Tips

Taking up a German language class can be very helpful to learn the basics. To get more fluent it is best to continue speaking in the language you are trying to learn. It would probably take a long time to rally learn German, so a person should not expect too much from German classes alone.

It was a nice experience for us and it gave my daughters and me the much needed start.
