the Price of Emergency Dental Care

I went to the dentist because my gums were sore!!! I had an aching wisdom tooth coming in sideways (impacted). So I looked for local dentist and a roommate suggested I go to a dentist 10 mins ago. I get to the dentist office and wait about 30 mins to an hour in pain! As soon as I get into the office I meet with the dentist and then later take X-Rays. I am then guided into the office again and lay down in the oh so comfortable dental chair. The dentist sees the impacted tooth and tells me that its GOT to come out! I could either pay for the single tooth or all 4 to come out. He pulls out a price list... $1500 would be more suitable for all 4 teeth! (for an extra $100 they could knock me out while they do the precedure) Well on my budget ...I start to cry because this would really pile up on my credit card! So I take the option of paying out the entire $1500 on my card which the dentist suggested...he then numbs my gums b/c I am paying so much in the first place and this dentist was NOT even gentle!!! I endure 2 hours of pain as he procedes to pull out my wisdom teeth.

HORRIBLE!!!!! After my gums were numb I still felt alot of pressure the dentist pulled back my impacted wisdom tooth like he was pulling back a parking brake! On top of that I got medication for the 1st time and my gums were so sore after one bottle of medication I bought...he upped (he sent out for a more expensive prescription) which instead of costing me $15 for one bottle of meds...he was going to charge me $80 for a bottle!

I didn't get a formal goodbye from him and instead I got lectured that I left too soon before my gums were to stop bleeding -when I went in a checkup the following week.

I don't know if I have any tips really. I really suggest getting knocked out next time and I didn't have dental insurance but in cases of emergencies I really need to look at the creditentals of the doctor (I am not sure if he was family owned or with other practices).

I am just glad that's OVER and done with!!
