Price was for one year of membership into the city's Chamber of Commerce, including provision of a vendor's license for doing business in the city, a subscription to the city's newsletter for members, and the ability to have a say in both Chamber of Commerce functions and any issues presented to city council that have some bearing on the business community in the city.

The membership in my case was necessary to obtain in order to do business within the city, and as a result was a compulsory purchase. That being said, the little extra opportunities and benefits that came with the general membership were things that I as a business owner could take and enjoy. The newsletter really made for a great read and provided some insight into the business culture inside of the city. It helped identify the target market I would have to seek out in the city to make money, and allowed me to have some view into the business community in general. The extra representation on the city council end also allowed us to have a say in the business goings on in the city, and made our collective opinion known about certain issues.

Joining a chamber of commerce in a city or community as a business owner is a great way to get a feel for the business culture within a community. The city responds better to a chamber of commerce certified business than one that simply moves into a community and opens up shop. If you plan on opening locations of business in a community, joining the chamber of commerce is a good way to show the community that you mean business.
